Grey and Page Hall are the two Bonnie sisters behind Grey Hall Design—the line of exquisite modern silk scarves, charming cocktail napkins, pocket squares and gifts with a Southern sensibility. The one with the cheeky “Stay Knotty” tagline that I adore so much.

“We would play with my mom’s silk scarves when we were kids,” says Page, who recently moved from Atlanta to Charlotte with her young family. Creativity is in the sisters’ DNA. “Artists and entrepreneurs are on both sides of the family,” she adds. “Fast forward from childhood—we graduate from college and enter the workforce. We loved the look of Hermes scarves, but it wasn’t a price point for us during those years. We also wanted something more fashion forward than what Macy’s was carrying.”

“We felt like there was a gap. What could we do to fill it?” says Grey, who is the incredible illustrator behind the art and silk scarf designs. The sisters are a year apart and have always been close. They’ve both had other professions all these years while they worked on their passion project on the side. Grey has painted for as long as she can remember and Page has always been in product design. The sisters credit their creative brilliance from their artist mother.

While Grey has been a marketing director for huge national brands, she also has an entrepreneurial spirit. “I moved back to Cincinnati and had a brick and mortar retail store for a while,” Page says about her earlier days. “Cincinnati is the most southern big city in a northern state I must say!” adds Grey.

Page, who worked for HGTV in Atlanta in the early 2000s, once sourced grosgrain ribbon from France turned them into ribbon belts and sold them to well-known Buckhead boutiques. Page eventually went into product design for Ballard Designs and traveled the world for the retailer. But the sisters’ side project and entrepreneurial hustle continued to be a calling.

“As an entrepreneur, you have this ideal state you’re trying to achieve. You think, ‘How do I even get the quality I want?’” says Grey, who has been designing silk scarves for over 10 years. “You launch something but it’s just a starting point. You know what good versus great is, and search for who can replicate the quality you want in the art.”

It took a lot for Grey Hall Design to get there, admit the sisters. “We finally found a manufacturer that has the quality of Hermes,” says Grey. “We’re happy to have silk with luxury detail and the craftsmanship we wanted. To finally be able to provide an heirloom piece!”

What initially inspired making a classic silk scarf current, has morphed into a burgeoning lifestyle brand. One of our faves? The cotton cocktail napkins. They are disposable, though you’d never know it. They’re so pretty for a party and would be great for an Easter celebration.

Shades of color and color composition is one of the strengths of Grey Hall Design. “It’s storytelling on silk,” say the sisters.

These silk scarves with a Southern slant are different and fresh. Grey’s watercolors are different than what you see from other designers. “It’s wearable art,” she says. “It’s the watercolors. There are no defined edges and beautiful shades.” My advice? Snatch them up before all the ladies down the street get to them first.
