Been wondering about Freshly, the pre-cooked nutritious meal delivery subscription, and whether it’s food you’ll actually like? I’ve been a Freshly client for three years and this is not a paid or sponsored post. In this review, I’ll tell you the six Southern meals I love from Freshly. I’ll also deliver savings on your first order (read to the bottom).

Freshly delivers healthy, chef-prepared meals pre-cooked and ready to eat. Furthermore, they come right to my doorstep. I tried other meal plans where I had to go pick them up at a location or it involved meal prep (cut, chop, sauté) and it was eating up all my time in the evening post work.

Moreover, I am trying to keep my eyes open at the end of the day. For instance, I don’t always have the energy to craft healthy meals for myself or for my family. Freshly touts less sugar, less processed ingredients, more nutrients and sly veggies worked in to the meals.

As a born-and-raised Southerner, I love meals that speak to my region. Whether, they’re upscale or down home. I chose six meals from Freshly that any Two-Sided Southerner will love and wanted to share.

1. Golden Oven-Fried Chicken & Mash
Firstly, this is like a yummy cheesy casserole someone brought over for Sunday supper. Second, the chicken breast in cassava flour and its oven-fried, but it tastes like fried chicken. The mash is cauliflower, potatoes, chives and Greek yogurt and is more carb-conscious than typical mashed potatoes. You’ll never know the difference. It tastes like a recipe passed down from generation to generation. Lastly, they threw in sweet corn and roasted sweet potatoes to make it even more homestyle.

2. Homestyle Chicken
We all grew up on fried chicken in the South. So this version rolls the chicken breast in a gluten-free almond flour batter. You get the taste of fried chicken without all the calories and grease. The mac n’ cheese sneaks up on you because it tastes gooey and cheesy. However, it’s gluten-free. After that, the sauce is thickened with healthy butternut squash and over brown-rice macaroni. Served with green beans, this meal could be placed on a gingham table cloth every Sunday.

3. Zingy Buffalo Chicken With Loaded Cauliflower
Buffalo chicken always reminds me of the game day dip I love so much. Any one else know what I’m talking about? All the flavors of buffalo chicken dip are in this, but somehow they made it healthy. And the cauliflower mash does not taste like it’s good for you. Just being honest. It’s delicious and comfort-foody. But it comes with turkey bacon, cheddar cheese, Greek yogurt, chives and it’s keto-friendly. Who knew?

4. Crave-No-More Shepherd’s Pie
For those Irish Southerners out there, this tastes like a hand-me down recipe grandpa’s been making on the reg. Veggies and lean protein have been snuck in. Expect ground beef and cauliflower butternut mash. However, it still tastes like it should be 1,000 calories or more. It’s paleo-friendly and dairy free. Similarly, not sure how they made it so scrumptious.

5. Shrimp and Andouille Paella
While paella’s origins are Spanish, the shrimp and andouille give this dish a Louisiana flavor flair. Every time I fork into the fluffy rice, it reminds me of a trip to New Orleans. Hearty and flavorful, the plate has big chunks of sausage, shrimp, peas, roasted red peppers and rice. For those who miss the bayou, the flavors in this will send you back.

6. White Bean Turkey Chili Bowl
So, I’m trying to figure out if I should tell you that it’s made with lean ground turkey, low-fat yogurt and basmati rice to give it all that heft. If you’d didn’t know it, you’d think it had been boiling in the chili pot all day. The reason I love this meal program is for dishes like this where I don’t know I’m spooning down puréed kale, green peppers, and celery. All I can taste is the cheddar cheese!
